A Local Oasis

A recommendation from a friend led H and me to a hidden little gem not to far from us: McFarlane Nature Park. This former farm is a mix of woodland trails and small gardens filled with indigenous plants and trees. I was especially fascinated with the Nectar Garden, where native perennials support several beehives. It was just a sweet little park.

H and I recently went with friends to visit an auto shop that specializes in servicing and restoring Model A Fords. Located in Maysville, Georgia, Bentley’s is one of just a few garages in the country dedicated to these classic automobiles. The shop is closed to the general public, but every now and then they host an open house where visitors can see the gorgeous work they do, meet like-minded enthusiasts, and chat with the owner. (They have fresh donuts, too.)

Frightening Fashion Friday: Easter Threads
Easter comes early this year on March 31st, so I thought I would devote this month’s Fashion Fridays to Easter outfits worn over the years.
In this photo from 1969, the theme seems to be symmetry. It appears I’ve pulled on the white knee socks to offset the floral pin, and the black patent leather Mary Janes balance out the purse and very high-waisted belt. We’re a happy crowd.
Hand of Time

I made this handprint, a kindergarten project that became a gift to my parents, when I was five years old. It has hung on our family walls ever since. My younger sisters also made handprints in school, although the materials became more sophisticated over time.
I have no idea what it’s made of – probably a primitive papier-mâché. It currently hangs in my office. Sometimes I place my hand next to it and try to imagine ever being that small. We are such amazing miracles.
