I took H kicking and screaming to the local farmers’ market on Saturday.  Although this weekly event is seldom (if ever) his first choice for an outing, his demeanor changed dramatically when he encountered the “Touch-a-Truck” event on an adjacent street.  Within minutes, he was chatting up the drivers of the extra-large wreckers (the ones that tow eighteen-wheelers).  Not only did H get to lay hands on a truck, he tested the driver’s seat, raised and lowered the boom, and checked out the sleeper compartment.  (Farmers’ markets sure do have a way of growing on you!)

I think my mom was pretty brave to think I was going to sit here passively while she took this photo.

Here’s a little something bright and fun from the preschool.  I always get a kick out of their inventiveness.

This little mourning dove wasn’t the least bit interested in having its picture made.

Here I have that look of being stuffed but determined to finish it all.  Even today, some fifty years later, this is exactly how I feel after being on vacation.

Lola

This is Lola.  She was a birthday gift for my nephew, celebrating his hard-earned driver’s license.  He discovered that overly tight packaging had broken her ankles (which put a crimp on her style).  Luckily, a quick repair was made, and now she happily dances atop the dashboard of M’s new wheels.

One of my favorite areas of the Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale, Arizona is what I call the nursery.  It’s so amazing to behold nature’s transformations.

This photo was taken one Easter Sunday many years ago.  We each seemed to be in our own little worlds… much as we are today.

Baking for Easter (Part II)

My sister S’s birthday falls close to Easter.  Several decades ago, Mom celebrated the event by designing, baking, cutting and assembling this cool little rabbit cake.  S loved it, but refused to eat any of the ears for fear that they contained “ear wax.”

My husband is known for his crazy sweet tooth.  As a Christmas gift last year, I called upon a dear friend of ours — an amazing pastry chef — to make H a special dessert each month.  For April she surprised him with this Easter-themed white layer cake with lemon curd and Italian buttercream.   He was in heaven!
