Winged creatures have been hanging on to our windows and screens lately… with all the rainy weather we’ve been having, it looks like any dry spot will do.
Frightening Fashion Friday: Sticking with a Winner
I was studying these images, trying to decide which one to use, when I realized that these are actually two different birthdays. The first one is my sister L’s big day in February, and the other is sister S’s birthday in March. Aside from the decorative gold pin, I have on the exact same clothes. Who knew that I had a special outfit just for birthday celebrations?
(Please note that S has on the same blouse as I do… glad she knows good taste when she sees it!)
Then and Now
My husband bought these gorgeous tulips back in March and placed them in his office to add a little mid-winter color. I’ve been watching the plant as it morphed through its life cycle, thinking H would eventually discard it once the flowers finally died off. Four months later, however, it’s still on his shelf. H claims it’s a reflection of the transience of life; I, on the other hand, figure he just hasn’t gotten around to tossing it.

I spied this yellow finch at the feeder outside our kitchen window checking out the day’s specials.
Frightening Fashion Friday: It’s All About the Hair
A few days before my younger sister’s wedding, I thought it would be nice to “fix” my hair for the special occasion — you know, add a little pizazz — so I had it permed. The resulting industrial-strength bouffant wasn’t quite what I had in mind, and it sure wasn’t what L was expecting. I can still see the shock on my family’s faces when I came through the door.
This look has forever been referred to as my Loretta Lynn ’do.
Saved by the Boogie Board
This afternoon, I spotted this potential customer checking out our self-service critter rescue system, which has been saving lives since 2011.
The Things We Save
I have a box filled with treasures from my childhood. Every couple of years I pull it out of the closet and sift through its contents. There’s such a mish-mash of stuff, but it all makes me happy.
The highlights include: a crab claw Mom gave me from a dinner out with Dad; a broken ceramic cat head that decorated a stapler; a yo-yo; castanets; a tiny turtle candle; salt and pepper shakers from my great-grandmother’s collection (I dropped and broke the glass ones when I was little); a plastic telescope from a box of Cap’n Crunch cereal… and yes, those are my last three baby teeth.
Frightening Fashion Friday: Red Hot
In retrospect, I should not have been wearing pink pinstripes, this large red bow, and Peter Pan collar, especially on what appears to be a hot summer’s day.

We have a wide variety of visitors at the feeders… some welcomed and others not so much.
