Back in the day, much of the fun at Halloween was creating your own costume from whatever could be found at home. A lot of thought and planning went into these ensembles. Some were more successful than others.

H plays percussion with the Georgia Philharmonic, and their first concert of the season was this past weekend. I’m always intrigued when I first arrive… lots of energy in the air, everything in place, musicians positioned and ready to play. There’s always a different perspective when the show ends.

I know my outfit looks like a Halloween costume, but this is what fashion was like in the 1980s. Perhaps I had watched one too many MC Hammer videos.
Discoveries

I’ve been sitting in the secret garden quite a bit lately, and I find that the more time I spend in there, the more I notice. Mother Nature has filled it with tiny little surprises everywhere.
Nature’s Dance

This is the Japanese maple tree just outside our screened-in porch. There’s such movement and fluidity in its lines. Whenever I look at it, I think of someone dancing in a wild and crazy frenzy.

It looks like I must have lost a tooth on my birthday. What a lucky break… presents and the tooth fairy!

Pitcher plants are absolutely fascinating. Growing in bogs where the soil is often poor in nutrients, they manage to be quite exotic. They’re also carnivorous: they lure their pray with the promise of nectar and then trap the insects inside their long tube-like necks, also know as pitfall traps. What a crazy plant!
