I’m sure at the time I thought this was a great idea, especially that large satin scarf.

Under a Blanket of Snow

Georgia, not known for its wintry snowfalls, took a tailspin yesterday when a winter storm blew through.  As with most things, however, there were elements of beauty even in the midst of chaos and hardship.

This weekend we celebrated our nephew’s seventeenth birthday with family and friends.  There were lots of laughter and surprises, including these silly candles with multicolored flames.

Fashionable Family Friday: Puffed Up for School

I was looking pretty cute on my first day of school, even with the extra starch in my dress.

Galaxies Underfoot

Today is about texture and patterns — specifically, the grain in this lumber.  I was mesmerized by these swirling, wiggling lines in the boards on a porch… such beautiful markings in something so common and dull.  They almost move on their own.

I love sitting at the kitchen window snapping pictures of the birds that come to our feeder.  It’s so challenging:  for every decent image that I get, there must be ten-plus that I toss.  Every now and then, though, there are these magical surprises…  an essence of their presence.

Hillbilly Golf (or putt putt as I like to call it) in Gatlinburg, TN was a classic vacation destination for us.  My father and sister L look like they’re having the time of their lives, don’t they?  Sister S, on the other hand, is thoroughly enjoying her day (she probably has the high score).  And me, well, I’m just content to be dressed as a twin.

The Two Faces of January

I discovered these two lizards exploring the mailbox at work.  When I showed H  this image, he was reminded of Janus, the mythical Roman god of transitions and beginnings.  Usually shown with two faces, Janus looks to the past and to the future.  How appropriate for the month of January, the month of reflection and looking ahead.

A Winter’s Path

The stormy weather finally cleared up enough for H and me to enjoy a walk through the neighborhood this weekend.  Generally there’s not much color this time of year, so when we encountered this mossy pathway I had to stop and savor its lushness… a good thing, because it’s dreary and rainy again today.

Fashionable Family Friday: Giddy-Up!

IMG 3Many moons ago my sister and I were horsing around (pardon the pun) and being silly on a Tennessee snow day.  Someone’s gotta take charge.
