A Soldier Remembered
During our recent trip to Holland, H and I had the honor of visiting the grave of Wilford “Rippy” Dixon in the beautiful American military cemetery outside the city of Maastricht. Rippy, the uncle of a friend of ours, was among those brave soldiers who died while crossing the Waal River during Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands. (The movie A Bridge Too Far tells the story of this World War II battle.)

Eye Candy
These columbines are in my sister S‘s garden. I’ve never seen them in these colors before. They remind me of SweeTarts, a favorite candy of ours.
Survivor
We recently opened our pool, and within a day we had our first critter rescue… a baby turtle. This little guy was only about three inches long. I scooped him out of the water, gave him a strawberry, and sent him on his way.

Working with What You’ve Got
Over the years, H and I have walked past this Amsterdam café many times. The unassuming table decor always catches my eye. I don’t know if the crate at the end of the row is for decoration or if it’s simply storage for additional produce. Who would have thought that squash could be a centerpiece?
Springtime in the Old Country
In all the years that I have known my husband and visited his native Netherlands, I’ve never seen the flower fields in bloom until a few weeks ago. The acres of tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths were stunning.

These are some classic pictures from my childhood. I don’t know what exactly Mom and Dad saw when they looked through the viewfinder, but this spontaneous “cropping” continued throughout my parents’ photo-snapping years. (I love my little outfit, though, especially the shoes.)
Family Gathering
H gave me a new camera for my birthday, and I have been practicing close-up shots. Little did I know that a mama bug and her brood had parked themselves on one of my flowers (you have to look closely at the top petal). Who knew I had a maternity ward in the secret garden?
