Fashionable Family Friday: Birthday Shenanigans

July 24, 2015

We loved celebrating birthdays, and this was Dad’s big day.  I’m not sure what my sisters and I were doing tucked into the background… we looked mighty suspicious, as if something was about to happen.

I love being surprised by art in unusual places.  I discovered these sidewalk swimmers while exploring New Orleans.

There’s a surprise around every corner in the French Quarter of New Orleans.  I don’t know what the nature of this building is, but I could not take my eyes off its rich and sumptuous colors.  What a beauty!

Fashionable Family Friday: Everyone Loves Petting Zoos

Our summer vacations always included a little something fun for everyone.  I’m not sure why Sister L felt the need to carry a stuffed animal in with the live ones… and Sister S, well, she was all about the fashion (see non-functioning headband).

I love the signs in New Orleans.  Each one tells its own story without even asking.

This past weekend I once again joined friends in Louisiana for the 9th Annual Running of the Bulls at San Fermin in Nueva Orleans.  Dressed in the traditional white with red sashes, we “ran” through the one-mile route while chased by “bulls” (members of various women’s roller derby leagues from across the country). Not only was it crazy fun, but the event supported two charities.

It looks like Floridaland might have gotten the best of us on this outing.

Behold the Modern Diner, a favorite haunt of my husband’s since his college years at Brown University.  In the early days, the restaurant went by another name and was located closer to the school campus, and although there have been changes, the ownership has not.  A couple of months ago, while in town for a reunion, we had breakfast here.  It was fun to listen to H and N (the owner) reminisce about the good old days as if time had never passed.

This group of cousins just exudes the joys of summer… except for Little Miss Sunshine on the far right.
