The Ocean’s Pull

September 3, 2012

Myrtle Beach was one of my favorite vacation destinations when I was a kid.   My sisters and I would spend the daylight hours chasing the waves and evenings playing putt-putt golf.  In between we amused ourselves with games, puzzles, and eating.  Sleep was our last choice of activities.  I’m sure my parents were exhausted when we finally headed home.

This weekend H and I found ourselves in the Myrtle Beach area for a family reunion.  I noticed that the things I remembered as a child appeared a bit louder and more gaudy now.  The beach was still beautiful, of course, but that rush of excitement wasn’t quite as grand this time, and the polish wasn’t nearly so shiny.  It’s funny how my perspective has changed as I’ve aged.  I wonder now how my Mom and Dad really felt about the beach back then.

I think they were thinking-you don’t really want to play another round of putt putt, do you?? Fun memories!
