A Treasure Unveiled
March 11, 2012
H’s mother loves flowers, so I often pick up a fresh bouquet for her when I visit the market. She has quite a collection of vases, and I always admire her knack for selecting the one that perfectly fits the character of the blooms.
I recently brought her some white hyacinths… the blossoms were just beginning to unfurl, and the fragrance was heavenly. Later in the evening, H emerged from his mom’s living room with a look of excitement. She had chosen a vase that I had never seen before, but one that H remembered from his childhood. I later learned that she had received this hand-painted gift almost 70 years ago, as a young woman in Holland. I’m delighted that this treasure is once again seeing the light of day.

Aw, what a nice gift for your mother in law! Hyacinths smell soooo good, don’t they? Their scent is intoxicating!
How delightful that this vase was recognized from childhood…I love the sharp scent of spring flowers in the house!
thank you for your sweet comment…slowly coming up for air.
